5 th Bridge. Donostia
The fifth bridge is now closer to being a reality. Yesterday at dawn, a spectacular complex engineering operation were placed in metal arches that will support it and those who begin to develop in the near future. For this work was necessary to cut traffic in the area for more than half a day, from nine o'clock Friday night. Vehicles entering the city from the A-8 were diverted from the road edge Urumea the neighborhood of the Banks of Loyola, while the circulation to the Centre ordered by Sancho the Wise to end in the Paseo de Bizkaia Azpeitia across the street. There were no incidents to review and work could perform with ease.
The first hints of this new bridge, opposite the Hotel Amara Plaza, bearing the name of Jose Antonio Agirre lehendakari, occurred with the installation of a giant crane on the opposite side of the hotel establishment. Only in this task took several hours. Mounted alongside two smaller cranes and a truck, whose utility was to control all changes of position of the arches and the counterbalance system.
Once that has been installed the metal frame of the bridge, then placed the board and withdraw from the island of rocks and dirt that has been necessary so far to run. This has significantly reduced the river, which will regain its previous appearance. The bridge is expected to become operational later this year, although there is no definite date for completion of work.
In principle, the timing of the work reflected that the bridge should be completed by the end of last year, but in practice the work will culminate in almost twelve months later. Point the City Council several causes of this delay. The first, a strike at work because they decided to change the material referred to in the beginning to save 300,000 euros for the 4 million budget and spent on stainless steel using conventional steel. The modification resulted in the annulment of the contract with the first company and had to have another. Neither the completion of crimp loops of metal arches that took place in Asturias was easy and the weld is more complicated than expected.
All this has done is not met the first deadline, set in December 2009 (must be completed before the sixth, recently opened), but not the second, adjusted for August this year. The main function will be the fifth bridge to reach the vehicles across the river to walk Federico García Lorca, and from there leave the city for the sixth bridge, either towards the motorway Urumea or taking the A-8 to Irun. Is a key structure in the street revolution that is occurring in the neighborhood of Amara.
